Primary Care for Pets
Health exams, vaccines, parasite prevention, and more. Because doing the little things can make a big difference.

At Phinney Veterinary we believe prevention is the foundation for good health.
Our primary care services are tailored to your pet’s needs, and allow us to proactively manage their health and prevent common problems before they start. Regular wellness visits can also help us track trends over time and address new concerns in the early stages. As your primary care veterinarian, we’ll partner with you to care for your pet throughout their lifetime—as though they were our own.
Primary Veterinary Care
Primary care serves as the initial defense in safeguarding your pet’s health. It encompasses routine check-ups, preventive measures, and the prompt identification and treatment of health issues. Our veterinarians are proficient in providing a diverse array of primary care services, including physical examinations, diagnostic tests, and preventive measures, all geared towards maintaining the well-being of your pet.
Prioritizing Primary Care For Pets

Wellness Exams
Pets are more likely to develop diseases as they age, but it’s easy to miss subtle changes. Annual wellness exams, which include a thorough physical assessment, allow us to check your pet from head to tail to detect disease signs they may be hiding. We also recommend annual blood work and disease screening to monitor your pet’s internal health. The sooner we diagnose any issues in your pet, the better their treatment outcome. Common findings on wellness exams include:
- Dental disease
- Heart murmurs
- Arthritis
- Lumps and bumps
- Weight changes
If our team detects an abnormality during your pet’s wellness exam, we will work together to create a diagnostic and treatment plan that will provide the best possible outcome.
Vaccinations
Completing a vaccination series when pets are young, and keeping up with boosters as adults, is the best way to prevent life-threatening infectious diseases in your pet. One-size-fits-all vaccinations are a thing of the past—at Phinney Veterinary we’ll recommend only those vaccines your pet needs based on their species, age, and lifestyle.
Parasite Prevention
Pets are susceptible to a variety of internal and external parasites, including fleas, ticks, heartworms, and intestinal worms. These pesky critters have creative ways to find a host, and no pet is safe from their wrath. Parasites can be transmitted from mother to offspring, through contaminated water or soil, or through vectors like mosquitoes, and they can also spread secondary diseases to pets and humans. We offer comprehensive parasite testing and a wide range of preventive products to protect your pet and your household.
Life-Stage Care
Your pet’s medical needs change throughout their lifetime, but we’re here to help guide you through all the big transitions. Our veterinarians are experts in adjusting care needs according to your pet’s life stage, and we’ll be with you though them all, including:
- Puppy and kitten care
- Adult wellness care
- Senior and geriatric care
- End-of-life decisions
Together, we can ensure your pet maintains good health throughout their life. Contact us to schedule your pet’s wellness appointment with our primary care service.
When To Bring Your Pet In For Primary Care
We recommend that you bring your pet in for a primary care appointment at least once a year for adult pets and every six months for senior pets. If you’ve recently adopted or purchased a pet, we advise you to book an appointment for their first examination within the first few weeks of ownership to ensure they receive the care they need to stay healthy.
At Phinney Veterinary, we’re passionate about helping you keep your pet healthy and happy. Contact us today to schedule a primary care appointment and to learn more about our comprehensive veterinary primary care services.
